About Us:
Our Services:
Westcoast Family Resources
Society is a registered non-profit society. Our staff of over 50 full
and part time workers deliver service to families in crisis throughout
the Lower Mainland. We are funded
through a combination of Ministry of Children and Family Development
contracts, gaming revenues, and the generosity of private and
corporate donors.
Westcoast Family Resources
Society has served parents, families, and communities and throughout the Lower Mainland since 1984. Working closely
with our clients, Child Protection Authorities, collateral service
providers, and our clients' informal support networks, we have always
maintained the highest standards of best practice and accountability.
Our high standards were confirmed in June, 2001 when we were formally
accredited through the New York-based Council on Accreditation.

Our programs focus on
helping parents develop skills in rearing their children. Along the
way, our staff works to help parents with a variety of related issues
and concerns that may make parenting more challenging. Examples of
some of the related issues we help parents deal with are:
 |
abuse and trauma
|
 |
substance use
|
 |
poverty
|
 |
mental and physical health and wellness
|
 |
self-esteem and related life skills
|
All our programs are
client-focused and strength-based. This means we develop service
plans together with the client family and the referring social worker.
It also means that every new relationship with a family begins from
the perspective of discovering and uncovering strengths, both within
the family and in the surrounding extended family and community. We
focus on helping families strengthen connections to the larger
community and to the network of informal resources around them.
An important aspect of our
programming is our attention to the cultural diversity of our client
group. We make every effort to respect and accommodate to the
cultural background and linguistic needs of our clients.
We operate outreach and group programs. All of these programs use a variety of
instructional techniques, including modeling, role-playing, group
activities, outings, and one-to-one supportive work.
Most of our referrals are
from the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
