Family Counsellor – Tri Cities

Temporary Vacancy, 35 hours 

Job Summary:  The Family Counsellor provides a variety of parenting education and supportive interventions that promote healthier family functioning and utilization of community supports.  This position also requires computer skills, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to meet reporting deadlines. This position will fill in for regular staff on leave for 3 months, and will be reviewed at the end of the 3 months with the possibility of an extension if needed.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

bullet Provide assessment of family and/or child functioning and needs.
bullet Arrange Integrated Case Management (ICM) meetings, in collaboration with the family.
bullet Develop and implement a counselling, support and intervention plan in collaboration with the family and their ICM team.
bullet Provide service in the family home or in the community, as appropriate.
bullet Liaise with others providing service to the family.
bullet Evaluate the effectiveness of services delivered to the child, youth or family.
bullet Redevelop goals with the client on a regular basis, as problems are resolved.
bullet Support the client, particularly in regard to housing, health, basic needs or schooling.
bullet Provide culturally competent service to clients.
bullet Maintain current, accurate records regarding assessments, contacts, referrals and MCFD reports.
bullet Remain up-to-date with all services provided by WFRS and its community partners.
bullet Must have experience doing group facilitation.

 Education/Qualifications:

bullet Relevant MA with 3 years experience, or relevant BA with 5 years experience preferred.
bullet Family Development Response training is an asset.
bullet An understanding of integrated case management/wrap around service delivery.
bullet Ability to work with families who may present multiple service needs related to poverty, addictions, violence, child abuse or neglect, and mental health issues.
bullet Ability to provide counselling from a Strength Based perspective.
bullet Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
bullet Ability to work evenings and weekends when required.
bullet Current Standard First Aid, Class Five Driver’s License and use of own car required.
bullet Clear Criminal Record Check.

This position requires union membership.   Salary: Grid Level 14
