A Brief History of Westcoast Family Resources Society

We are a community-based Lower Mainland society offering intensive parenting programs to children and families experiencing difficulties, children at risk, and individuals looking to improve their parenting skills.

In 1984, when it was decided to devolve government services into the private sector, Westcoast Parenting Resources and Education Program Society was formed. Later we became Westcoast PREP Society, and now we are Westcoast Family Resources Society.

At first we operated site-based programs, and now we offer outreach programs educational and support groups and clinical counselling. Our programs use a variety of instructional techniques including observation, modeling, direct teaching, role playing, counselling and support and group therapy to work with children and families.

Working closely with our clients, child protection authorities, collateral service providers and our clients’ support networks, we have always maintained the highest standards of best practice and accountability. This was confirmed when, in 2001, we were accredited by the Council on Accreditation. We were one of the first BC agencies to become accredited.
