Our highly experienced practitioners work collaboratively with you or your child and provide tailored services to overcome identified challenges in a safe and supportive environment. Our services are offered for a reasonable fee, require no referral.

Decrease your parental frustration with guidance and counselling from evidence-based research and qualified practitioners. We offer Parent Coaching where we work on specified parenting goals and for children who display behavioral challenges we offer real-time coaching through our Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) program.
What is Parenting Coaching?
Through individual guidance and counselling, we set you up to achieve various parenting goals such as: mutual respect, positive disciplining, emotional regulation, and child stress management. We offer optional in-home services to better suit your parenting needs.

What is Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)?
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy is an evidence-based parent coaching plan for young children with behavioral challenges. Using specialized equipment our practitioners conduct real-time coaching, where you will learn techniques and tips to improve the way you manage your child’s strong behaviour or temperament while it’s happening.
What are the outcomes?
Decreased frequency, severity, and/or duration of tantrums.
Decreased hyperactivity levels.
Decreased negative attention-seeking behaviors (such as whining and bossiness).
Increased feelings of security, safety, and attachment to the primary caregivers.
Increased attention span, self-esteem, and pro-social behaviors (such as sharing, taking turns, building friendships.
Child Play Therapy
Child Play Therapy
Our experienced practitioners work with children ages 3 - 12 years old to explore their troubling feelings, thoughts, and behaviors, by engaging in expressive play in a safe and supportive environment. Sometimes children go through experiences that are stressful or traumatic for them, therapeutic play allows the child’s innate self-healing abilities to be activated, supporting the child’s growth and development. The value of play therapy is its contribution to an individual’s mental, emotional, social and psychological well-being.
Child Play Therapy can be helpful to:
Relieve a child from upsetting memories and difficult to process feelings.
Builds confidence and teach a child how to positively relate to others.
Teach a child how to express feelings appropriately.
Build coping & self-regulation skills.
Fosters a greater awareness and understanding of their experiences.
Meet our Practitioners
Kate Saunders, MA, RCC
Kate Saunders has 18 years of experience at Westcoast Family Centres as a counsellor and parent educator, specializing in working with children and families. Kate completed her BA in Child Youth Care and her MA in Counselling Psychology, and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor in BC. She works therapeutically with people of all ages, with children in play therapy, and with parents and children together to address challenging behaviors. Kate is a certified practitioner of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, one of the few empirically-valid treatments for disruptive behavior in young children. Kate focusses particularly on supporting healthy attachment and emotional development with all of her clients.
Emily Lok, CCC
Emily is a multilingual - English, Cantonese and Mandarin - counsellor with experience providing support to individuals, couples, children and families with various challenges in their lives. She came from Hong Kong to Canada to complete her BA in Psychology and her Master’s Degree in Counseling and Psychotherapy. Emily is a Canadian Certified Counsellor. Emily believes that people are the experts in their own lives. She works passionately and non-judgmentally with clients to enhance their self-awareness and personal growth with the strengths they have. Emily currently works as a Family Counsellor at Westcoast Family Centres, where she provides counselling to clients struggling with relationships, parenting, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, abuse and multicultural issues.
Lori Sangha, BSW, MC, CCC
Lori has been providing supportive and counselling services to children, youth, adults and families for over 25 years, in a variety of social services settings. Along with a Master’s degree in counselling Lori has knowledge and training in a wide variety of areas including child and family development, multicultural/diversity issues, grief and loss, stress management, healing from trauma, depression and anxiety, teen challenges, life transitions, and couples’ conflicts. She is dedicated to providing a caring, safe and respectful therapeutic environment in her work with people of all ages and will tailor interventions to help meet the needs of each client. Lori believes that solutions for life’s struggles can be discovered through a collaborative process that promotes greater self-awareness, meaning, and optimal conditions for success.
Gabriela Gutierrez, MCP, RCC
Gabriela was a practicing counsellor in her home country of Mexico before deciding to move to Canada, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology and became designated as a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in British Columbia. Currently, Gabriela is a Family Counsellor for Westcoast Family Centres, where she works with individuals, couples, children, and families on a variety of concerns, including relationships, abuse, trauma, and mental health issues like depression and anxiety. Gabriela believes that people do the best they can with the tools they have. Therapy is about building an awareness and understanding of different aspects of oneself, so that the individual can learn more effective tools that will allow growth and change for the better.
Destinee Kreil, BA, MCP, RCC
Destinee is a skilled clinical counsellor with experience in supporting children, youth, and families overcome various life challenges. Destinee has completed a Master’s of Counselling Psychology degree, and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor in BC. Destinee’s education and clinical opportunities have allowed her the privilege of providing counselling to individuals and families struggling with such concerns as: depression, anxiety, grief and loss, self-harm behavior, self-esteem, family separation, gender and sexual identity, parenting, and abuse. Destinee is passionate about supporting and empowering clients to access their internal strengths, as she believes that all clients are capable of creating lasting changes in their lives. Destinee is dedicated to providing a non-judgmental and accepting therapeutic environment for all of her clients, as she views this as an essential component in helping clients feel safe to explore their challenges in order to promote healing and happiness.
*GST is applicable. Our Fees are in accordance with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors’ Recommended Fee Schedule. Payment is accepted through cash, cheque, debit or Visa/Mastercard. Third-party coverage or reimbursement (e.g. extended health or EAP benefits) may apply. Clients are responsible for researching or applying for any benefits. Please note that 24 hour notice is requested for session cancellation, or the regular fee will be charged. Fees may vary from counsellor to counsellor depending on experience.
